Strength and Warm-up Routines
What You Need:
  • New pair of running shoes – The Running Room or Terra Loco in Rochester will help you find shoes that are comfortable and they give discounts to HS athletes. There are also other athletic stores in Rochester, Winona, or La Crosse that can help you with this.
  • Watch with timer – Many of our workouts are on the road and require timed intervals. The more athletes that have watches, the smoother all of these workouts become. It does not have to be fancy, a suitable watch can be found at Wal-Mart or Target for around $30.
  • (OPTIONAL) Spikes – If you have been on the team for 2-3 years, it is recommended that you get Cross Country spikes to use in meets. They are lighter and offer better traction on grass than training shoes. These are also sold at running stores.
MSHSL Rule Change:
Beginning with the 2015-16 school year, the race distance for both girls and boys varsity cross country meets and all MSHSL postseason tournaments shall be 5,000 meters (3.1 miles) unless the meet director or games committees adjusts the distance because of weather or some other unforeseen reason. The race distance for lower level high school meets may be less than 5k.

2020 COVID Considerations:
  • There will be no more than 3 teams at each meet
  • Athletes must wear masks at the beginning and end of each practice if/when the team congregates
  • Athletes must bring their own water bottle to each practice and meet. Sharing water bottles will NOT be allowed
