TOBACCO/ALCOHOL/DRUGS In compliance with state law, smoking, drinking, the use or possession of a controlled substance and/or the possession of drug paraphernalia is not allowed anywhere in the building, on school grounds, or at school activities. SMOKING OR CHEWING TOBACCO The penalties for the use or possession of tobacco are: 1st Offense: One day of Saturday School and parental notification. 2nd Offense: Two days of Saturday School and parental conference. 3rd Offense: Student and parents appear before the Disciplinary Committee for further action. In addition, the student will be reported to the City of St. Charles for violating the city ordinance. High School League consequences will be assigned. ALCOHOL, DRUGS, AND OTHER CHEMICALS The penalty for the use, possession, or being under the influence of alcohol or other non-prescription mood-altering substances on school grounds is, but not limited to: 1. A minimum of a five day suspension for the first offense and ten days for the second offense (each day of suspension resulting in a day of Saturday School. The number of days of Saturday School may be reduced by the successful completion of a chemical abuse curriculum). 2. Contacting the police. 3. Referral to the chemical awareness coordinator for an assessment. Possessing any amount of or providing or selling non-prescription mood-altering controlled substances on school grounds or at school-sponsored events may result in additional penalties, including long term suspension or expulsion. |
