Experience life-changing growth.
Become a Minnesota Reading Corps or Minnesota Math Corps tutor.
Positions are currently open at St. Charles Elementary

Would you love to help children grow their reading or math skills and succeed in school? If your answer is yes, you can be trained to serve as a tutor with Minnesota Reading Corps or Minnesota Math Corps at St. Charles Elementary.   Whether you want to explore a career in education, re-enter the workforce, or give back to your community, you can be a child’s hero as a tutor. Last year, Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps provided direct services to more than 35,000 children in more than 900 sites across the state.

As a Literacy Tutor, you’ll use research-proven strategies to help students become proficient, confident readers.  As a Math Tutor, you’ll help struggling 4th-8th grade students gain the core math skills they need to prepare for high school graduation and college enrollment.  As a Preschool Literacy Tutor, you’ll work with a classroom of children ages 3–5 to help develop their early literacy skills and get them ready for Kindergarten.

You’ll collaborate with classroom teachers throughout the day and provide an extra boost to groups or individual students who need it.  There are openings for part-time and full-time tutors, and tutors typically serve most of their hours during the regular school day.

Tutors come from many backgrounds and include recent high school and college grads, career changers, stay-at-home parents, and retirees. With extensive training, support from onsite coaches, and evidence-based strategies, tutors are well-equipped to change lives. Tutors may earn a living allowance, education award, and federal student loan forbearance, and will have the chance to make a real difference in the life of a child.

During your eleven-month AmeriCorps service, you’ll receive extensive training, support and general professional development opportunities. In addition, you will receive a modest living allowance, an education award and other benefits if eligible, for 35 hours of work per week when school is in session. Most tutors will begin in August. More information on benefits provided to tutors can be found at this link:  https://minnesotareadingcorps.org/tutor-benefits/
